Anatomy of a graduate: what Fartcoin proved about the bonding curve

The token that turned an AI experiment into a billion-dollar meme — and what its path off the curve teaches about how graduation actually works.

Every day, tens of thousands of tokens launch on pump.fun. Almost all of them die on the bonding curve. This series dissects the ones that didn't — starting with the most absurd success story the launchpad has ever produced.

The setup

Fartcoin launched in October 2024 out of the Terminal of Truths orbit — an AI agent experiment that captured crypto Twitter's imagination. No team allocation drama, no roadmap, no promises. A joke name, a fair launch on the curve, and a story people wanted to retell.

That last part is the entire lesson. The bonding curve doesn't reward products; it rewards stories that spread faster than sellers can exit. Fartcoin's story — "an AI picked this" — was self-replicating in a way no marketing budget can buy.

What graduation actually means

On pump.fun, a new token trades against a bonding curve: a fixed mathematical market maker where every buy pushes the price up the curve. Fill the curve and the token "graduates" — its liquidity migrates to the open market and it starts trading like any other Solana asset.

Graduation is the launchpad's only real quality filter. It costs roughly the same in net buying pressure for every token, which makes it a useful proof-of-attention: a graduate is a token that convinced enough strangers to commit real SOL before there was any liquid market to flip into.

The pattern worth stealing

Strip out the meme and Fartcoin's path looks like this:

  1. A distribution wedge that already existed — the AI-agent narrative had a ready-made audience before the token did.
  2. A curve-fill fast enough to outrun doubt — momentum on the curve is visible to everyone, and visible momentum recruits.
  3. A post-graduation story that kept working — the joke stayed funny at a $1B market cap, which is rarer than it sounds.

Most launches have none of these. The interesting launches — the ones this site exists to find — have at least one before they hit the curve.

Why we start here

Fartcoin is the control specimen: pure meme, zero utility, maximal outcome. Every project we spotlight from here on can be measured against it. If a "serious" token with a product and a team can't out-narrate a fart joke, the curve will say so — publicly, in about 24 hours.

The card above is live. Whatever Fartcoin is worth as you read this, that number is the current market verdict on the oldest question in this ecosystem: how long can attention hold a price up?

Not financial advice. Memecoins are extremely volatile and most go to zero. pump.blog is independent and not affiliated with pump.fun.
